About Us

During the last 17 years the Forest Bus has developed a sound reputation for working with the Gypsy community – both on sites and in the community. By taking a mobile resource (a community centre on wheels) and skilled staff into communities which are isolated and lacking in amenities, we offer a range of opportunities to people of all ages according to their needs.

Through our work in the community, we have been commissioned to undertake 4 pieces of research into the health and social needs of Gypsies and Travellers Through this we have identified that the community suffer high levels of marginalisation, premature mortality and erosion of their culture. There has been a great deal of negativity in the media about the community and in order to address this, and to raise the profile of Gypsy culture and traditions in a positive way, we applied for funding from the Local Heritage Fund to undertake an Oral History Project.
